“We are aware that one University of Houston faculty member has been affected by the SEVIS visa terminations based on his recent status as a doctoral student at another institution,” a UH statement reads.
Hyeongseon Jeon informed students of the change to his legal status in a message on Sunday, which was subsequently shared on social media. Jeon said that the upper-level mathematics course, called Statistics for the Sciences, would transition to a new instructor for the remainder of the semester. He apologized for the sudden change.

似乎是因为之前在其他学校的SEVIS记录被终结导致的签证撤销？

Jeon’s most recent curriculum vitae posted to the UH website showed that he was a postdoctoral scholar at Ohio State University from September 2022 to June 2024. He began teaching at UH in fall 2024, according to the resume.

是开始搞F/J转的H1B了还是说这个教授本身在用OPT干教职 :yaoming: 。 好抽象啊。

我猜他应该是STEM OPT最后一年然后交了H-1B cap-exempt在等approve的阶段
所以work authorization仍然依赖STEM OPT

那这OPT本来也没剩几个月了，就当回家度假顺便新签H1B了。

这跟国籍没关系。不管他之前有没有犯过事儿，犯过多小的事儿，他肯定被标记了。再申h1b也不可能过的。

能当 AP 的能不能 EB1 ，ROW EB1 current 呢

不奇怪，估计媒体也没分清。有些学校博后的正式title就是（非tenure track）ap

德州公立大学的好日子还在后头呢 :yaoming:
University of Texas要求教授和博后汇报personal出行安排就不说了，之前被否掉的那个取消tenure计划现在又开始推进了。不管是new phd还是new ttap，能避开德州就避开德州吧。

这次SEVIS termination确实没有国籍指向性。但说实话似乎从没听说哪个欧洲学生被terminate的消息，我不信欧洲人比亚洲人还老实。

有没有可能，他们看着泛东亚人觉得脸、名字看上去都差不多？大部分人地理知识匮乏。不长自己这样的，就是非我族类？

J1也能教职吧？可能身份还没转换好。

然后呢，有的领域的AP在一些学校其实就是postdoc，比如说数学，而这个人正好是个数学AP。所以完全可能他拿的是J1签证，很多学校不给postdoc H1B的

目前似乎还没有J1 SEVIS被terminate的例子吧？昨天我们单位还发了一个"The federal government has not been terminating any J-1 SEVIS records but we are monitoring the situation."

可能只是J1人群太少 + 呆的时间没F1久导致数量太少了。系统里应该没什么区别

学校说是因为他在另一个大学的phd身份，不知道是怎么被发现的

他明显是phd刚毕业，正用f1 opt在做博后。
